Wound Closure Course

This course is designed to prepare advanced practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary for wound closure. You will learn to differentiate types of wounds, indications for the use of local anesthesia, and wound closure techniques, and apply the knowledge in a supervised laboratory setting. Material will be provided.

If you are a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, medical doctor, doctor of osteopathic medicine or an RN First Assistant interested in building wound closure skills, you will benefit from this course. Six Nursing Contact Hours will be awarded at the end of the course.

What You Will Learn

Those who complete the Wound Closure course will be able to:

  • define the principles of wound healing
  • characterize types of wounds that require suturing
  • discuss types of anesthesia and the indications for selection
  • differentiate types of needles and suture material
  • demonstrate proper suturing technique
  • justify selection of suture material and needle size for specific wounds

 

The Continuing Nursing Education Committee at the University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Health Affiliates is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Application Deadlines

Currently, there are no Wound Closure Courses being offered. You may add yourself to the waiting list by submitting registration information for the Spring 2017 session. Students on the waiting list will be notified when a new session is planned.
