Smith, MS, RN, ANP successfully defended her dissertation proposal entitled "A Study of Students Who Have Successfully Completed the Registered Nurse (RN) First Assistant Program at the University of Rochester School of Nursing from 2005-2009: Examining Professional Development Socialization and the Process of Role Transition to Develop the Personal Self" in her EdD program at the University of Rochester Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education October 12.

Grant Awards

Dr. Deborah Nawoczenski, Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the Rochester Center and Linda Riek, adjunct faculty at Ithaca and PhD student at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, were awarded a “Quality of Life Grant” from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The grant will support the “Shoulder Fitness Program,” a healthy shoulder initiative developed for wheelchair users with spinal cord injury, which will be offered at Pieters Family Life Center in Rochester, NY, the region's only wheelchair accessible community fitness facility.

Honors and Awards

Harriet J. Kitzman, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Dean for Research and Professor at the University  of Rochester School of Nursing, was honored with the Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Susan B. Anthony Legacy Dinner on February 4.

Laurie Kopin, RN, MS, ANP has been notified of her selection as a fellow in the National  Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA). The 2010 Annual Symposium will take place   in Schaumburg, IL. in April.

Mary Tantillo, PhD has been notified of her selection as the 2010 recipient of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) Meehan-Hartley Award for Public Service and/or Advocacy.  The awards ceremony will take place during the AED 2010 Salzburg International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED) in June.

Sheldon D. Fields PhD, RN has received The Gerald A. Ludd Lifetime Award for Excellence in Support of HIV/AIDS and Community Service. The award was presented by National AIDS  Educational Services for Minorities (NAESM, Inc.) at the 2010 National African-American MSM Leadership Conference on HIV/AIDS and other Health Disparities on January 24 in Atlanta, GA.

Dolores Krebs, NP at URMC and clinical associate faculty member at the School of Nursing, was a member of the NYS Committee with the Department of Criminal Justice Services that created a training video which was recently honored with an international award. The video is entitled “A Body of Evidence: Using the NYS Sexual Offense Evidence Collection Kit.
