The School of Nursing  has received a 5 year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  This is the highest number of years possible for the first time accreditation period. 

The School of Nursing 's graduate degree programs consistently rank among the finest in the nation. Our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program was named the tenth best in the nation in the most recent ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

The University of Rochester School of Nursing has earned a coveted spot in academic medicine – a research ranking of 6th from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The annual rankings combine research grants, training grants and fellowships.

Our Center for Clinical Research on Aging ranks among the nation's top four nursing schools in geriatric research, based on funding from NINR of the National Institutes of Health.

The University of Rochester School of Nursing Fuld Scholar Programs are made possible by a generous gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust, HSBC Bank USA, Trustee, the nation's largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education. In 2006, the University of Rochester received a $40 million award from the NIH to establish a Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The aims of the institute include novel translational methodologies, pilot studies, biomedical informatics, design, bio statistics, and ethics, regulatory support, patient and clinical interactions, community engagement, translational technology, education and career development, upstate network and evaluation.

The Empire State gold certification is given to organizations in New York State that use effective, forward-looking practices throughout their organizations. The University of Rochester School of Nursing is the only nursing school to receive Gold certification since the inception of the award in 1992.

The University of Rochester was named one of the top 10 colleges in America for budding entrepreneurs in the March 2006 issue of Fortune Small Business magazine. The recognition comes three years after the University of Rochester received a $3.5 million grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which with matching funds, formed the basis for a $10.5 million initiative to make entrepreneurship and integral part of courses and programs across all six schools at the University, including The School of Nursing. “Entrepreneurial energy has now become deeply embedded in every school and program at the University of Rochester,” said University President Joel Seligman. “This builds on our long tradition of being a relatively small research university distinguished for our high degree of cross campus collaboration and nimbleness.”

We have been selected as one of seven John A. Hartford Foundation Geriatric Investment Fund sites. The program is designed to develop geriatric nursing leaders and advance geriatric nursing research and practice. Coordinated by the American Academy of Nursing, and requires that a school demonstrate a solid foundation in geriatric nursing programs, curriculum innovations, university collaborations in geriatrics, and faculty leadership locally and nationally.

We were the first school of Nursing in the country to offer a master's degree program in Leadership in Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness. Our program was profiled as the opening chapter in the 2006 Annual Review of Nursing Education.

The School of Nursings "Community Initiative To Improve Nursing Home and Dementia Care" has been recognized by the American Journal of Nursing for its extraordinary work in the field of long-term care through the establishment of a periodic column, SHORT TAKES ON LONG TERM CARE coordinated by the Elaine C. Hubbard Center on Nursing Research on Aging. Actual innovations in long-term care are identified, described and supported with research evidence in articles written by faculty and published in the American Journal of Nursing thereby changing practice in long-term care facilities throughout the world.

We are the first (and only) School of Nursing to establish and lead a NICHE Program in our affiliated hospital system (Strong Health). Started in 1992, NICHE has evolved into a national geriatric nursing program comprising 197 active sites in 38 states as well as parts of Canada and The Netherlands. It is a program of The John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University. The goal of NICHE is to achieve systematic nursing change that will benefit hospitalized older patients. The vision of NICHE is for all patients 65 and over to be given sensitive and exemplary care.
