Faculty Spotlight: Alexa Schneider

Alexa Schneider, PhD, RN, FNP, NY-SAFE, LNCC, leads the Legal Nurse Consulting course at the UR School of Nursing and brings a wealth of experience as a longtime legal nurse consultant. 

In addition to working in defense and plaintiff firms, she has been president of her own consulting firm since 2003, working on various cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, criminal, sexual assault, nursing home, licensure investigations, matrimonial, toxic tort, labor law & product liability claims.

She routinely testifies as an expert. She has served on the American Association of Legal Nurse Consulting Certification Board, has been past president of the Rochester Legal Nurses Network and treasurer of the NYS Chapter of the International Association of Forensic Nursing. Her current board positions include, Nation Forensic Nursing Institute, Nurse Practitioner Association Greater Rochester and the NYS Board of Nursing.

Schneider is a native of Upstate, New York. She graduated in 1986 from Roberts Wesleyan College with a bachelor of science in nursing, attended the University of Rochester and completed her master's in nursing at St. John Fisher College, as a family nurse practitioner in 1997. She also has doctoral degrees in philosophy and psychology.

She worked for several years at Strong Memorial Hospital in various departments before transferring to Rochester General Hospital to work in their Open Heart Intensive Care Unit. Additional nursing experiences include working as a Community Health Nurse for Genesee Region Homecare; nursing faculty in various nursing programs; cardiac rehab nurse at The Jewish Community Center; private duty nurse in the homes of pediatric patient's; NY Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner, and family nurse practitioner in family practice.
