Bio

Sukardi Suba, PhD, RN, is an experienced critical care nurse with research interests in clinical electrocardiography, patient monitoring, and data science. He earned his PhD in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) under the mentorship of Michele M. Pelter, PhD, RN, FAHA.

Currently serving as a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, Suba strives to leverage and advance the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic values of electrocardiogram (ECG) markers to enhance care delivery and improve patient outcomes. His research explores the clinical significance of arrhythmia alarms generated from continuous ECG monitoring in adult ICU patients and their impact on nurses’ alarm fatigue. Additionally, Suba investigates the predictive utility of continuous ECG data on in-hospital cardiac arrest. During his recent postdoctoral work under the mentorship of Mary G. Carey, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, at the University of Rochester, he focused on enhancing the timeliness of coronary angiography for patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Suba’s commitment extends to advancing nursing practice, education, and research in his home country, Indonesia. His research findings have been widely disseminated through high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and he actively contributes as a member of the American Heart Association, International Society for Computerized ECG, Sigma Theta Tau, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Recently, Suba joined as a contributor for the ECG Puzzler, a regular feature in the American Journal of Critical Care that addresses clinical ECG interpretation.

His contributions have earned him several accolades, including the 2022 Distinguished Dissertation Award from his alma mater and the 2022 Distinguished Service Early in Career Award from the Rochester Academy of Medicine. Prior to earning his graduate nursing degrees from UCSF, Suba worked as an intensive care unit nurse in Indonesia.
