A Story of Innovation and Leadership
For more than 80 years, the University of Rochester has been carving a history of innovation and leadership in nursing education. It began in 1925 when the School of Nursing was founded, and it continues today as we launch new fields of study (such as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner), new degrees (such as the “in development” Doctor of Nursing Practice), and new concepts (such as the Center for Nursing Entrepreneurship).
Once, the field of nursing was thought of in somewhat narrow terms. Now, armed with broader educational opportunities than ever, nurses are recognized as scientists, essential members of the health-care team, and vital contributors to the future of the medical profession.
How this development came about makes a fascinating, exciting story, peopled with important pioneers in the history of nursing education.
