Bio

Julie Waite is a dedicated nursing professional with a passion for education and innovation in healthcare. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Keuka College, and has worked for the University of Rochester for 31 years. With nearly three decades of nursing experience, she has contributed significantly to patient care in various clinical settings including critical care, ambulatory care, and employee health. Her dedication to caring for patients has been invaluable in ensuring quality patient outcomes. She served as a preceptor for new staff and played an active role in the hospital-wide dysrhythmia course and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) program. These experiences ignited a profound interest in teaching. Motivated by this passion for nursing education, she pursued a Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from the University of Rochester.

In her current role as an Instructor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, Waite plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of nurses. She develops and presents course content for both in-person and virtual, focusing on the Accelerated Bachelor’s Program for Non-Nurses (APNN). Additionally, she serves as a clinical instructor, mentor, and advisor to nursing students, fostering a supportive learning environment, facilitating their transition into clinical practice. She also plays an important role in the Education Innovation Team (EdIT) where her expertise in course development, curriculum design, experiential learning and educational technology provides an essential resource for faculty. In this assistive role, she works primarily with the third semester APNN faculty to ensure alignment of learning outcomes, assessments and teaching methods while providing collaborative tools and educational resources to support this alignment.

In recognition of her dedication and excellence in nursing education, Waite received an award for Outstanding Faculty Colleague as part of the Education Innovation Team (EdIT). She is also an active participant in professional development activities, sharing her expertise and contributing to the advancement of nursing education. Presentations regionally and nationally include the Association for the Assessment of Learning and Higher Education Virtual conference (Breaking the Silence: Voice Thread Implementation for Collaborative Learning, 2021) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Transform 2023 conference (Using a Scaffolded, Multi-modal Approach in Multiple Learning Environments to Improve Student Success, 2023 presentation and poster).

Waite is committed to enhancing nursing students' experiences by incorporating technology to prepare them for success in both classroom and clinical settings. With a passion for nursing education and extensive clinical experience, she is a valuable asset in academic and clinical environments. Through her dedication, expertise, and leadership, she inspires and empowers students, colleagues, and fellow nursing professionals.
