For me, the most powerful thing about being a nurse is the ability to truly be there for someone in their most vulnerable moments. Moments of connection define this profession for me. It’s powerful to know that my knowledge and skills can help heal, but it’s just as powerful to know that my compassion can bring comfort. The opportunity to make someone feel seen, heard, and cared for makes this work so meaningful and powerful.

Both funding opportunities provide financial assistance—as well as access to academic resources, career coaching, and mentorship—to support aspiring nurses.

The UR Nursing Scholars program is a school-specific initiative that provides full tuition coverage for students in the UR School of Nursing's 12-Month ABSN program in exchange for a three-year service commitment at a participating UR Medicine hospital.

In contrast, the state-managed CPT Program offers funding for various health-related programs across New York State, including coverage for tuition, fees, and books with a three-year service commitment at any eligible provider in the state serving high-need populations.

After graduating and passing the NCLEX, students in either funding track will go on to complete their program's three-year service commitment. UR Nursing Scholars graduates will work with their mentor to identify an eligible full-time role at their selected UR Medicine hospital. Graduates who received CPT Program funding will receive job placement support to identify a full-time role at an eligible health, behavioral health, and/or social care organization.
