The UR Nursing Scholars program is the University of Rochester School of Nursing's flagship initiative to prepare the next generation of nurses and strengthen the region's healthcare workforce.
Eligible students can receive full tuition coverage for the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) program and support as they prepare to launch their careers in exchange for a three-year employment committment at a participating University of Rochester Medicine hospital.
Apply Early Action by Sept. 15, or by Nov. 1 for Regular Decision.

Becoming a UR Nursing Scholar starts with applying to the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) program. Follow the steps below to begin your journey toward a nursing career.

To qualify for the UR Nursing Scholars program, you must:
- Be a new University of Rochester School of Nursing student
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent U.S. resident, or DACA student
- Be admitted to the 12-Month ABSN program and meet all program and prerequisite requirements
- Commit to three years of full-time employment at a participating URochester Medicine hospital

Becoming a UR Nursing Scholar
The UR Nursing Scholars program provides three semesters of tuition coverage as a scholarship and forgivable loan for eligible students enrolled in the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) program at the University of Rochester. Upon completing the program, passing the NCLEX, and committing to a three-year work commitment at Strong Memorial, Highland, or F.F. Thompson Hospital, the loan is fully forgiven.

The conditions of UR Nursing Scholars program require that recipients work full-time in an eligible position at an eligible healthcare facility for up to three years. If students do not meet the conditions of the UR Nursing Scholars program, they will be required to repay loan funds as set forth in the Loan Agreement & Promissory Note, to be reviewed with a financial aid counselor upon admission to the program. Students exclusively attend classes at the University of Rochester School of Nursing on-site in Rochester, New York.
