Bio

Before beginning his nursing career, Caldwell served eight years in the U.S. Army as a logistics specialist, earning an Associate of Applied Science in General Studies before his honorable discharge in 2008. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at SUNY Brockport in 2011 and began his career in the adult emergency department at Strong Memorial Hospital.

While working full time in the emergency department, Caldwell earned a Master of Science as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Rochester in 2016 and became board certified. He went on to practice at the Wilmot Cancer Center on the Solid Tumor Inpatient Service, and later at St. Ann’s Community in skilled nursing and rehabilitation.

After the loss of his spouse, Caldwell became a single parent to three children and relocated to the Buffalo area, where he now serves at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Solid Tumor Head and Neck Medicine.

Committed to lifelong learning, Caldwell earned his Doctor of Education in Higher Education from the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester in 2022. He has been teaching at the School of Nursing since 2016 across the ABSN, MS–NP, and RN to BS programs.

Current Focus

As an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and educator, my professional focus lies at the intersection of cancer survivorship, aging, and equitable access to care. I bring over a decade of clinical experience across acute, rehabilitative, and oncology settings, with a particular commitment to improving the quality of life for patients and families navigating complex illness.

My journey from military service in the U.S. Army to advanced nursing practice has instilled in me a deep appreciation for discipline, service, and human resilience. These values guide both my clinical work at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and my teaching at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, where I strive to prepare future nurses to deliver compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care.

I am especially passionate about advancing health equity and addressing the social and structural determinants that shape health outcomes for older adults and cancer patients. Through education, mentorship, and advocacy, I aim to empower the next generation of nurses to lead with empathy, curiosity, and integrity—ensuring that every patient, regardless of background, receives dignified, person-centered care.
