Current Focus
My journey in nursing education began in 2004, where I have held multiple teaching and leadership positions within the UR School of Nursing. My goal has always been to facilitate student-centric, evidence-based teaching practices that serve to prepare tomorrow’s nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse educators and clinical leaders. Developing innovative experiential learning opportunities in psychologically safe environments is at the cornerstone of my academic practice. In addition to becoming the first director of simulation & experiential learning at the School, I have developed several new courses, the first Pediatric Acute Care NP program in New York State, and began implementing competency-based assessments using Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
My passion for pediatric clinical practice emerged back in 1992 as a registered nurse. While I have had the privilege of caring for many different pediatric populations, I remain devoted to advocating for our most vulnerable members of the community and providing evidence-based care to high-risk children and their families. My clinical practices have included pediatric primary care, acute care, specialty/chronic care, palliative care, and emergency care for children from birth through adolescence. The synergy that exists between my nurse practitioner clinical practice and nurse practitioner teaching practice is energizing and restores my passion for both.
