Bio
Jay Monahan, PhD, PMHNP, NEA-BC, has 25 years of experience in various areas of healthcare, including inpatient, outpatient, management, emergency medicine, and homecare. Currently, Monahan is an assistant professor of clinical nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing and a nurse practitioner at Strong Memorial Hospital. Monahan is board-certified as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and also holds a Nursing Executive-Advanced (NEA) board certification. He is passionate about ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, and research. Monahan is an active Diversity, Inclusion, Culture and Equity (DICE) board member and nurse ethics liaison (NEL). He earned a doctorate in management from the University of Phoenix and his doctoral dissertation was titled "Staff Nurse Job Satisfaction and Nurse Manager Emotional Intelligence in Three Rochester, NY area hospitals." He holds a master of science in educational administration and a bachelor’s science in nursing from SUNY Brockport, a master of science in nursing from D’Youville College, and a bachelor’s in education from SUNY Geneseo.
