Bio

E. Kate Valcin, DNP, RN, is a distinguished nursing leader with over 27 years of experience at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). As the interim chief nursing executive, she oversees a department of 3,500 health care professionals, including nurses, patient care technicians, and unit secretaries. Valcin began her career as a staff nurse working in gynecology/oncology and adult surgery units. She rose to clinical nurse educator and senior nurse manager of the MICU before taking the helm of adult critical care nursing in 2015. In addition to serving as a preceptor and educator at the University of Rochester School of Nursing she is also the current president of the New York Organizational for Nursing Leadership (NYONL). In 2023, she received national recognition as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
