Bio
MariaLaina Chennell brings more than 20 years of nurse practitioner experience as an assistant professor of clinical nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. A longtime educator and clinician, Chennell currently teaches master’s-level courses in Advanced Pathophysiology and Primary Care and serves as a student advisor in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She also teaches in the RN First Assistant program, a unique program preparing nurses from around the world to practice as RNFAs in preoperative and postoperative areas. In addition to her role at the School of Nursing, Chennell works as a nurse practitioner in the Department of Surgical Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is also a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and The Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, where she serves as the legislative chairperson for Region 2. Chennell began her teaching career at the School of Nursing in 2012 with the School’s Center for Lifelong Learning while working as a trauma nurse practitioner. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UR School of Nursing and her DNP degree from St. John Fisher College.
