The University of Rochester School of Nursing appointed Kristina Santory, MS, RN, CNEcl, CV-BC, CNRN, as its director of engagement and enrichment, effective Jan. 1.

As director, she will hold a pivotal role in the School of Nursing’s efforts to foster a welcoming and supportive academic environment, promote inclusive teaching and learning practices, support faculty and staff professional development, and enhance student recruitment, engagement, and success.

Santory is a longtime instructor of clinical nursing in the Accelerated Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing Education programs, and works per diem as a registered nurse in the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

Demonstrating a commitment to community-building and shaping future generations of nurses, Santory has developed and facilitated mentorship programs for URMC and the Rochester Black Nurses Association; served on the Undergraduate Subcommittee, precepted new nurses, and supported unit-based well-being and performance initiatives.

In 2023, she received the annual Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, earning praise from student nominators as a “beacon of advocacy” who prioritizes students’ wellness and goes above and beyond to help them succeed.

Santory is currently pursuing a doctorate in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators at the University of Alabama. She holds a bachelor's in psychology from the University of Rochester, bachelor's in nursing from Nazareth University, and master's in health professions education from the University of Rochester Warner School of Education.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important work, and excited to partner with colleagues across the School of Nursing and the broader university community to advance initiatives that strengthen belonging, well-being, and engagement among staff, faculty, and students,” Santory said.

Santory succeeds Caroline Nestro, PhD, MS, RN, who retired in December after more than 40 years of service to the University in nursing and mental healthcare.
