Bio
Luis A. Rosario-McCabe has more than 30 years of experience in nursing with a focus on women’s health and improving access to health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. He currently serves as the co-director of the Accelerated Programs for Non-Nurses.
A senior nurse practitioner at the University of Rochester Medical Center, he began his nursing career as an associate degree nurse in 1989 at Strong Memorial Hospital. A four-time UR School of Nursing graduate, he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993, his master’s as a women’s health care nurse practitioner in 1995, and his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2017. He also received a post-master certificate from the Clinical Nurse Leader program (2015). In 2022, he completed an LGBT Health Policy & Practice Graduate Certificate Program at George Washington University. In his clinical career, he has provided obstetric and gynecological care for women of all ages. A member of the LGBTQ+ community, he welcomes patients of all backgrounds to his practice. He has a specialty practice in the care of transgender individuals, which has led to his appointment to a statewide LGBT taskforce advocating for high-quality, affordable health care for all New Yorkers.
He joined the UR School of Nursing faculty in 2003 as a women’s health clinical instructor in the Accelerated Bachelor’s Program for Non-Nurses. He was awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016, and in 2018, he was named specialty director of the school’s Clinical Nurse Leader master’s program. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, the National League of Nursing, the Clinical Nurse Leader Association, and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
