Bio
Erin Baylor, DNP, RN, PCPNP-BC, ONP, FNAP, CHSE, is currently the director of simulation and the PNP program at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Baylor has over 30 years of experience working with pediatric populations and is committed to advocating for vulnerable community members and providing evidence-based care to high-risk children and their families. Her clinical experience includes pediatric primary care, acute care, specialty/chronic care, palliative care, and emergency care for children from birth through adolescence. Baylor has been a faculty member at the UR School of Nursing since 2004 and has held various teaching and leadership roles, as well as maintaining a clinical PNP practice. Her primary goal has always been to promote student-centric, evidence-based teaching methods that prepare future nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse educators, and clinical leaders. Creating innovative hands-on learning opportunities in safe environments is central to her academic approach. Apart from being appointed as the first director of simulation and experiential learning at the School of Nursing, she designed several new courses, including the first Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program in New York State, and has started implementing competency-based assessments using Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and interprofessional poverty simulations. Baylor earned her associate’s degree from SUNY Alfred, her bachelor's, master’s, and post-master’s degrees from the University of Rochester, and her DNP from Chatham University. She is a distinguished Fellow in the National Academies of Practice and frequently presents at national and international conferences on topics related to simulation, NP education, and innovative experiential learning strategies.
Current Focus
My journey in nursing education began in 2004, where I have held multiple teaching and leadership positions within the UR School of Nursing. My goal has always been to facilitate student-centric, evidence-based teaching practices that serve to prepare tomorrow’s nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse educators and clinical leaders. Developing innovative experiential learning opportunities in psychologically safe environments is at the cornerstone of my academic practice. In addition to becoming the first director of simulation & experiential learning at the School, I have developed several new courses, the first Pediatric Acute Care NP program in New York State, and began implementing competency-based assessments using Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
My passion for pediatric clinical practice emerged back in 1992 as a registered nurse. While I have had the privilege of caring for many different pediatric populations, I remain devoted to advocating for our most vulnerable members of the community and providing evidence-based care to high-risk children and their families. My clinical practices have included pediatric primary care, acute care, specialty/chronic care, palliative care, and emergency care for children from birth through adolescence. The synergy that exists between my nurse practitioner clinical practice and nurse practitioner teaching practice is energizing and restores my passion for both.
