Bio
Kristin Hocker is an associate professor of clinical nursing, a faculty diversity officer, and the University of Rochester School of Nursing’s deputy Title IX coordinator, undertaking responsibility for the prompt and fair handling of sex-based harassment or misconduct complaints. Widely recognized as an influential voice in matters of diversity and inclusion, leadership, and professional development, Hocker has a progressive record of experience in teaching, consulting, and facilitating training and professional development within higher education, academic medicine, and health care.
Before joining the School of Nursing full-time in 2019, she spent the previous 13 years as an organizational development specialist in the University of Rochester Department of Human Resources, where she coordinated the UR Safe Space program and facilitated workshops on implicit bias and microaggressions, cultural humility, and other topics that address the concept of equity as practice. In addition, she taught part-time in the HCM program (where she continues to teach in the newly-titled Leadership in Health Care Systems program). She has also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Warner School of Education, The College at Brockport, and MCC.
Additionally, Hocker is part of the faculty team teaching leadership development to fellows in the UR LEND (Leadership Education for Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) program, and a member of URMC's Restorative Justice team, advancing a restorative approach to building a sense of community and resolving conflict. She is also part of the University of San Diego's Center for Restorative Justice team of facilitators. Hocker earned her doctorate in higher education in 2015 from the Warner School and received her bachelor’s degree in food service management and master’s in training and instructional design from Rochester Institute of Technology.
