Nellie Wixom — who has been with the University of Rochester for over 20 years —currently serves as clinical instructor at the School of Nursing where she teaches online nutrition courses, including; Nutrition and Health, Clinical Guidelines for Nutrition/Weight Management, Understanding Dietary Supplements and Addressing Childhood Obesity for the Healthcare Professional. She also holds a primary appointment as the nutrition research manager of the Nutrition Research Group at the URMC Clinical Research Center.

Wixom has co-authored a nutrition chapter on obesity for the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine, “Nutrition Intervention in the Medical Management of Obesity" and was co-principal investigator of a School of Nursing study that tested the effects of acupuncture on weight loss as well as participated in several other studies that were published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, Wixom has presented for health and wellness events as well as contributed to media interviews and newspaper articles on obesity and other nutrition-related topics.

Prior to her current role, Wixom served for 10 years as the program director of the University of Rochester's Nutrition Weight Management Center. She received her bachelor’s degree in nutrition management from the Rochester Institute of Technology with highest honors. 

Current Focus

As a registered dietitian, I am passionate about the field of nutrition and its impact on health. One of my specific research interests includes the prevention and treatment of obesity in adults and children.
