The University of Rochester School of Nursing is now accepting applications for a new 24-month option in the Accelerated Bachelor’s Program for Non-Nurses. The degree pathway allows aspiring nurses to complete the program in six consecutive semesters to earn a second bachelor’s degree in nursing.
The 24-month pathway features the same curriculum and clinical experiences as the 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor’s program, which launched 20 years ago as a unique way for college graduates to quickly enter the nursing workforce. The highly-competitive program has prepared thousands of students for careers in nursing and has attracted students with varying ages, backgrounds, and talents, from across the U.S. and New York state.
“To meet the nursing demands of the future, we must first meet the needs of our students,” said Lydia Rotondo, DNP, RN, CNS, FNAP, associate dean for education and student affairs. “The 24-month pathway is a great option for students who want to pursue a new career in nursing while balancing work, family, or other commitments.”
The School of Nursing will enroll the first cohort of the 24-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing program in Summer 2023. Applicants must have a previous bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. During the program, students will:
- complete 49 nursing credits over six consecutive semesters.
- complete 700 clinical hours, with rotations in med-surg, obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
- earn a second bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing from the University of Rochester.
- be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam after completing the program to obtain RN licensure.
The 24-month option will be offered once a year with enrollment in the summer semester. Interested applicants should apply by Jan. 2 for the Summer 2023 semester.
