IT Services for Students

The SON ITS Help Desk offers assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the School of Nursing. Room reservations, package deliveries, and many technology related services are functions of this area. The ITS Help Desk facilities and services are free and available to all during regular operating hours.

About the IT Help Desk

The desk is staffed by members of the SON IT Services team. Calls to the SON IT Help Line (x5-7500), emails to the Help Desk ( and "help button" requests are handled by staff at the Help Desk, among others. Questions or issues requiring immediate help can be brought to the desk and can be resolved or triaged to other members of the team as needed.

Location and Hours

The ITS Help Desk is located on the first floor of Helen Wood Hall near the Crittenden Blvd entrance (Room 1w142). Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

IT Services for Students

The Help Desk maintains a selection of IT-related equipment for ease of distribution to SON faculty and staff and a more limited selection for students. These include replacement keyboards, mice or webcams, video cables or power/charging cords. Additional non-standard equipment is also available for borrowing, such as projectors, DVD players, etc.

The Help Desk can also assist with digital conversion/scanning of physical materials such as photos, documents, VHS tapes or DVDs, etc.

To request a conference room or meeting space, contact your program’s administrative assistant.

Room reservations can be submitted via the Room Request form or by emailing Please submit requests at least 24 hours prior to when the space is needed for a meeting. For larger events in Evarts Lounge, Auditorium or Vestibule, please notify room scheduler two weeks before the scheduled event. Reservations can also be placed in person.

Primary support for events held in Helen Wood Hall is located in the Center. This includes Evarts Lounge, the School of Nursing Auditorium or any other space in Helen Wood Hall for internal SON or external users. To request specific media equipment or services for events please contact via email:

  • We recommend the use of Sophos anti-virus software for all students. There is a free home version (registration with Sophos required), which can be used regardless of your ongoing affiliation with the University of Rochester.
