The University of Rochester School of Nursing is dedicated to supporting our students through several scholarships designed to diversify the nursing workforce:
Dean’s Diversity Scholarship
The purpose of the Dean’s Diversity Scholarship is to support the mission of the School of Nursing to diversify the nursing workforce. Two full tuition scholarships will be awarded to incoming students in each cohort of the Accelerated Nursing Programs. The scholarship does not cover the cost of related program fees.
Students will be expected to meet monthly with the UR Nursing Dean and/or other senior faculty for leadership development and mentoring.
Criteria:
- Highly competitive holistic application score
- Member of an underrepresented group, preference given to those from an underrepresented ethnic/racial group
- Application reflects prior experiences in a leadership role or identified leadership potential
Process:
- Two scholarships per Accelerated Program for Non-Nurses cohort will be awarded
- Director of Admissions & Enrollment Management will select the awardee
Dean’s Graduate Leadership Diversity Scholarship
The purpose of the Dean’s Graduate Leadership Diversity Scholarship is to encourage and mentor students from underrepresented groups in nursing to consider a career as a faculty member. One MS/DNP student per year will be selected to receive this scholarship award.
This scholarship will provide full tuition support for two courses per semester for the length of the student’s program of study. The scholarship does not cover the cost of related program fees. Opportunity to meet with either the UR Nursing Dean or another senior faculty member will be arranged to provide mentoring throughout the course of study.
Criteria:
- Highly competitive holistic application score
- Member of an underrepresented group in nursing
- Completion of a brief essay addressing why a career as a faculty member is of interest
Process:
- One scholarship will be awarded annually
- All applications will be reviewed by the Director of Enrollment Management, UR Nursing Dean and/or UR Nursing Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs
- The Dean, Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs and the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion will select the recipient
