Message from the Program Directors
Welcome! As co-directors of the School of Nursing's undergraduate programs, we are thrilled you are thinking about a future in nursing, and considering our accelerated nursing programs.
This is an exciting time to be a nurse! There is so much flexibility and opportunity. As a nurse, you can specialize in an area based on your interests and work in a wide variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, community health/nonprofit organizations, disaster relief, technology, and business sectors. Career advancement and high earning potential are also perks of the profession.
It is also an exciting time to be at the School of Nursing! We continue to develop our new clinical simulation space, classroom instructional strategies, and clinical experiences to maximize your learning opportunities.
We are one of a handful of nursing schools in the country to be designated as an Apple Distinguished School for our innovative use of technology. You won’t see our students hauling backpacks full of books. With one iPad they can access written materials, take notes, engage with students and instructors, and practice patient care at the bedside.
Our nursing faculty are experts in their academic and clinical areas. More than 90 percent of our school’s faculty are active clinicians themselves. They work as nursing leaders across the UR Medicine system in specialty areas ranging from pediatrics to aging care, and trauma to cancer. They are are also highly qualified to assist students while navigating the rigorous program, acquire new learning skills, and prepare to transition to the RN scope of practice. The nursing faculty and staff are committed to partnering with you as you become a lifelong learner and leader in the nursing profession.
As you explore a new career in nursing, we hope you consider the University of Rochester and URMC as the ideal place to achieve your goals. We encourage you to learn more by connecting with us at any stage in the process — attend an info session, tour the school, or connect with our admissions representatives.
Wishing you the best on your educational journey!
Sincerely,
