Description:
This course provides foundational scholarly writing skills for healthcare professionals. Students will learn to design systematic literature searches, synthesize results from a variety of scholarly sources of evidence and construct a thesis-driven argument with evidence-based recommendations. Additionally, students will develop APA-style writing skills such as using evidence to support claims, properly attributing sources, formatting manuscripts, employing precise language, and maintaining a professional tone. Through an iterative writing process, students will receive regular formative feedback to improve their critical thinking, presentation of ideas, paragraph organization, strategic revision, and grammar usage. Learning activities will highlight inclusive communication practices such as cultural sensitivity, audience awareness, and person-first language. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their scholarly writing development and self-efficacy to support their metacognitive growth. The course emphasizes the role of scholarly discourse in promoting social justice and equity in healthcare.
