- This course explores the impact of policy on population health, focusing on socioeconomic, environmental, and cultural determinants that influence healthcare access and outcomes. It covers foundational and theoretical principles of epidemiology and population health as they apply to health policy. Students will explore the historical foundations and status of the U.S. healthcare system, including delivery systems and financing. The course aims to deepen students’ understanding of healthcare policy and its effects on population health investigating disparities based on socioeconomic status, race, and gender. Students will engage in the health policy process, developing skills in policy analysis and advocacy through direct stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the course explores the connections between research, practice, policy, and population health, with students examining the policy implications of their own research and scholarly work.
