NSG 318 - Pathogenesis of Cardiac Dysrhythmias and ECG Interpretation in Adults
4 credits ( 4 didactic credits )
Description:
The primary focus of this course is on interpreting 12-lead ECG's; however, though the principles taught in this course extend to interpretation of in-hospital cardiac telemetry, Holter monitoring, etc. Content includes the physiologic mechanisms responsible for atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia/infarction, and cardiac abnormalities, e.g., QT prolongation, chamber enlargement, bundle branch block, etc. Importantly, since the ECG is critically important for the assessment and treatment evaluation of myocardial ischemia and infarction, this course describes the pathology and therapeutic interventions for ischemia and infarction in acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Upon completion of this course, the learner will understand and correctly interpret a 12-lead ECG in a variety of pathological states.
