NSG 378 - Genetics

3 credits ( 3 didactic credits )

Description:

This course, will describe fundamental principles of genetics and extrapolate how genomics influence human health and disease. After discussing the current science of genetics and genomics, this course will explore the convergence of technology revolutionizing genomics, and re-imagine nursing within this genomic revolution. Health care is in the beginning stages of the genomic revolution. The convergence of DNA sequencing technology, gene editing, molecular diagnostics, and artificial intelligence will completely restructure pharmaceuticals, treatments, and nursing. This convergence of technology will extend the duration and improve the quality of life but will have significant and largely unknown implications. Additionally, the course will evaluate the ethical and social implications of genomics.
