About innovation at UR Nursing

At the University of Rochester, world-class faculty and instructional designers transform nursing education at every level. We are dedicated to building evidence-based curricular goals, reinvigorating course delivery methods, and integrating hands-on learning experiences in classroom and practice settings.

As a result, our students practice and refine their critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and problem solving skills in a safe, supportive environment. This dynamic learning environment empowers students to meet the complex needs of patients, deliver quality care, and successfully navigate an ever-evolving healthcare system.

Turning innovation into impact

We are recognized nationally as a leader in nursing education. Here, academic innovation is inspired not just by our mission to engage our students while they are with us, but to prepare them for success in their careers in a complex and evolving healthcare landscape. Our active and experiential learning opportunities, collaborative tools, and educational technologies put our students at the center of their own learning experience, which builds their skills and confidence—and makes them better nurses.

Academic medical centers must lead in harnessing technology to enhance—not replace—the human connection in healthcare. At our school, we’re integrating AI literacy, informatics, and data ethics into education so our graduates are confident, ethical users of emerging tools.

Working closely with our practice partners, we’re ensuring students are practice-ready and able to use innovations like adaptive learning and simulations to strengthen critical thinking. As has been said, AI won’t replace doctors and nurses—but those who use AI wisely will shape the future of care.
