Science and taking care of others have both been important aspects of Alice Fiatsonu’s life. In her home country of Ghana, she earned a bachelor’s in biomedical sciences and spent years working as a teacher.

When her family moved to Rochester, Alice became a sterile processing technician at nearby Unity Hospital.

“What prompted me to switch to nursing is the desire to make an impact in people's lives directly through advocacy. I feel fulfilled when I see that I’m making a positive change in people’s lives," Alice says.

When she’s not busy at the School of Nursing, Alice can be found playing hockey, cooking, or spending time with loved ones, including her husband, daughter and two sons.

Why did you choose UR Nursing?

UR stood out to me because they have structures in place to help students excel in their respective programs, and a track record of high NCLEX pass rates. They also embrace diversity, which was the major attraction for me.

What have you enjoyed the most about your UR Nursing experience?

What I have enjoyed the most is the support system of the faculty. They are always there to help you navigate through nursing school.

What are your favorite things about Rochester?

One, it is a good place to raise a family. Two, the people. We have a diverse culture here in Rochester. The people are so welcoming. Life is easy and not that crazy, and we have a lot to be thankful for. I will recommend the Ontario Beach Park, and plenty of restaurants around. I will also recommend the China Buffet, and the Korean, Indian, and Mexican restaurants in Henrietta!
