Are you a nurse looking to expand your practice? Legal nurse consultants provide assistance to a variety of professionals in law firms, government offices, and insurance companies. You’ll analyze health care facts, issues, and outcomes for those in the legal and health care professions and act as a liaison between the legal and health care communities.
The UR School of Nursing Legal Nurse Consultant course:
offers a unique internship experience working on real cases
prepares nurses to improve patient care in their current roles
provides an opportunity to learn and network with experts in the legal, insurance, and nursing fields
provides vital, practical knowledge on using nursing expertise in collaboration with legal experts
The course takes about six months to complete (two semesters) and features a a five week didactic course with a weekly in-person session, asynchronous online learning activities and a 168-hour internship. After 2,000 hours of practice, eligible LNCs can complete a certification exam to become Legal Nurse Consultant Certified.
Application Deadline and Process
The Legal Nurse Consultant Course is designed for registered nurses or advanced practice nurses. Apply by August 1 before the next October course session.
Students will attend a weekly in-person class for five weeks featuring opportunities to learn from lawyers, judges, risk management experts, small business owners and practicing legal nurse consultants, and then complete the remainder of the academic work asynchronously.
In the second part of the course, students complete a 168-hour internship with an attorney or legal nurse consultant. The entire 6-credit LNC Course typically takes six months
