NSG 332 - Popular Diets: A Clinical Review

Diets have been popular in the U.S. for decades. They have ranged in design from specific macronutrient distribution such as high protein or low carb to avoidance of certain types of food such as plant based diets. Diets have been promoted to manage, treat or prevent disease states or certain health conditions but often lack the scientific evidence to support their use. Health care professionals are often asked about the use of diets by patients and would benefit from having a good understanding of their efficacy. Diets should be recommended just like any other treatment based on scientific evidence. This course will provide the health professional with a clinical review of the most popular diets used to promote treatment, management or prevention of disease. The content of this course will assist the health care professional in recommending appropriate diets based on a clinical review of their efficacy. This course is intended for physicians, nurses, registered dietitians and other allied health professionals.
