NUR 374A - Nursing Care and Health Promotion for Childbearing Clients and Their Families

Description:

The Nursing Care and Health Promotion for Childbearing Clients and Their Families course focuses on the role of obstetrical nurse caring for the childbearing client and neonate. Throughout the course, key concepts in health promotion and prevention pertaining to ante, intra, and postpartum care, risk reduction and disease prevention, and strategies to achieve optimal health are taught. In addition, the course introduces concepts specific to neonatal care and development. Through didactic, simulation, and clinical experiences students will use clinical judgment and reasoning to care for diverse clients while collaborating with the healthcare team.

Student Learning Outcomes:

1. Utilize the nursing process when caring for the childbearing client and neonate with actual or potential health problems.

2. Incorporate client-centered and culturally-inclusive resources available in the community to support clients and their families.

3. Assess the determinants of health and their impact on the childbearing client and neonatal outcomes.

4. Provide culturally appropriate, evidence-based care to the childbearing client and neonate.

5. Identify health promotion and disease prevention needs to reduce risks and improve outcomes related to sexual, reproductive, and neonatal health.
