Student Ambassadors

Student Ambassadors at the University of Rochester School of Nursing serve as representatives of the student body, acting as a bridge between prospective students and the nursing school community. Their role is to provide an authentic perspective on what it’s like to be a nursing student and creating a welcoming environment for future members of the nursing program.
As current students, our ambassadors understand the excitement, challenges, and questions that come with pursuing a nursing degree. They’re eager to share their journeys, including what drew them to UR Nursing, their experiences in the classroom and clinical settings, and how the program is shaping their future careers. Their firsthand knowledge and passion for nursing make them an excellent resource for anyone considering a path in healthcare. Our Student Ambassadors also play a key role in fostering connections within the UR Nursing community and are committed to helping prospective students feel confident and supported. Their stories reflect the unique opportunities and personalized approach to education that set UR Nursing apart.
We invite you to connect with our Student Ambassadors to learn more about life at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Meet our Student Ambassadors

Julia Boran
Student Ambassador
Hi! I’m Julia, a third-semester ABSN student originally from Fairfield, Connecticut. I’ve been living in Rochester for the past five years and earned my first degree in microbiology from the University of Rochester. After graduating, I decided to continue my path in healthcare and pursue nursing, with the goal of becoming a registered nurse in emergency medicine. I eventually plan to become an NP. I currently work as an EMT, which has given me hands-on experience in critical situations and confirmed my passion for fast-paced, high-impact care. I’m especially drawn to the ER for its energy, unpredictability, and the chance to support people during some of their most difficult moments.
When I’m not studying or working, I love to read and spend time outside. One of my favorite places in Rochester is Cobb’s Hill Park. I always find it a great spot to unwind, take in the view, or go for a walk. Being a student ambassador is important to me because I want other students to feel supported and empowered throughout the program. Nursing school can be challenging, but you're never alone. I’m always happy to answer questions, share advice, or just connect, so don’t hesitate to reach out!

Santianna Hernandez
Student Ambassador
Hi! My name is Santianna Hernandez (she/her) and I am from Rochester, NY. I have a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration from SUNY Brockport. Prior to coming to the University, I have been a patient care technician at a few local hospitals and have truly enjoyed the experience I have had in direct patient care. I have always wanted to be a nurse since I could remember so getting my bachelor’s and working in the hospitals as a PCT was just another step in the direction of my goal. After completing the ABSN program I want to work in the hospital setting but still deciding what area as I have multiple interest currently and then further my education as well. I enjoy spending time with those closest to me, participating in fun activities, enjoying the weather when possible, and traveling when time allows.

N’Kulu Kibwe
Student Ambassador
Hi! My name is N’Kulu Kibwe (he/him/his) and I’m a second semester student at the University of Rochester School of Nursing’s ABSN program. I was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut and I’m of Congolese descent. I went to the University of Bridgeport where I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in health sciences in 2024 before attending the School of Nursing. Being the oldest of 4 brothers, I always felt I had a natural obligation to take care of others, and that desire to do so drew me to the profession of nursing. My mom was also a big influence, as she recently obtained her bachelor’s in nursing.
During my free time, I like to explore different places, work out, play basketball, listen to and make music, and watch sports. One of my favorite restaurants in Rochester is Sweet Chicken & Ribs. It reminds me of the restaurants that we have back home, and their wings are the best I’ve had around here. If you’re new to the area, I would highly recommend trying them out. I’m looking forward to being your Student Ambassador at the School of Nursing!

Anna LaPoint
Student Ambassador
Hello! My name is Anna LaPoint (she/her), and I am from Fairport, NY. Before coming to the University of Rochester School of Nursing, I received bachelor’s degrees in biology and environmental studies from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. After graduation, I worked as a patient care technician in the Highland Hospital Emergency Department to gain clinical experience before pursuing medical school. While working in this position, I fell in love with the nursing profession because of the relationship building with patients and their families, the teamwork atmosphere, and the opportunities for growth in various areas across the field. I began the 12-month ABSN program as a UR Scholar in August 2024 and have learned many valuable lessons from faculty and peers. One thing I learned is the importance to take time for yourself because self-care is essential for your holistic success in school and beyond! I am unsure where I will be working after graduation, but I am excited to continue learning more about my interests. Outside of school, I enjoy my work as a swim coach and dog sitter! I also love reading, spending time outside, baking, traveling, and exploring new coffee shops. My favorite coffee shops for relaxing or studying are Pearson’s, Tree Town Café, and Clementine’s Coffee.

Laura Moon
Student Ambassador
Hi! My name is Laura Moon (she/her). I’m originally from Queens, New York, but I currently call Long Island home. I earned my bachelor of science in biology from the University of Rochester in May 2024 and began my journey at UR Nursing in January 2025.
My passion for nursing stems from a deep commitment to advocacy and compassionate care, especially in the realm of women’s health. Living with a reproductive health condition has given me firsthand insight into the gender disparities that exist in healthcare and the challenges patients often face when trying to be heard. My goal is to bridge the gap between patients and providers to ensure equitable, empathetic care for all. After graduation, I will be joining Strong Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Scholar for three years, during which I plan to pursue a nurse practitioner degree in Family Medicine or Psychiatry.
When I’m not working, I enjoy baking and experimenting with new recipes. Some of my favorite spots to relax and eat in Rochester are Winter Swan Café and Nosh. For a change of scenery and fresh air, I often head to Letchworth State Park or Watkins Glen State Park, both perfect spots for hiking and camping. I also look forward to attending the annual Lilac Festival every May, as it is always a highlight of the season.

Olivia Marie Snell
Student Ambassador
Hi! My name is Liv (she/her) and I am from Greenwich, New York. I earned my undergrad degree in psychology at Le Moyne College and completed a fifth year there for graduate studies in Creative and Non-Profit Administration while running cross country and track and field. I was inspired to pursue a career in nursing after my own struggles with systemic lupus. I am planning on pursuing a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner, likely in oncology. I am also interested in clinical research. I love trying new coffee shops in the Rochester area and thrifting at the Goodwill Bins! I am currently training for my second marathon with the Lupus Research Alliance’s team, Life Without Lupus.
