How to Apply to the Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing program

We are excited to support your journey to a rewarding nursing profession with the Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) programs at the University of Rochester.

The School of Nursing uses a comprehensive, holistic review process during which each application receives individual consideration. We seek applicants who:

  • clearly understand the role of the nurse,
  • are motivated and prepared to pursue an intensive, full-time program of study,
  • and are committed to upholding the values of the school and the profession.

Below, find details about how to successfully submit an application to the 12-Month or 24-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing Programs (ABSN) to earn a second bachelor's degree.

Application Deadlines

We accept new cohorts for the Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing programs every semester. All supplemental materials must be postmarked by midnight of the deadline.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the 12-Month or 24-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing Programs, applicants must:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing from an accredited school
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 from the most recent relevant degree
  • successfully complete the prerequisite course requirements before starting the program
  • be proficient in the English language (International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency)

Application Requirements

To submit a complete application, create an account to complete all sections of the online application. In addition, upload or submit required materials:

  • Official transcripts from all schools attended
  • Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references
  • Current resume or CV
  • TOEFL, IELTS, or DET scores for international applicants who are non-native English speakers
Short-Answer Questions

As part of your application, you must also answer several questions (each with a 150-word limit). The prompts for short-answer questions have been listed here for reference.

  1. All students can contribute to the creation of a diverse and inclusive environment when diversity is defined most broadly. Whether by personal attribute, characteristic, culture, experience or behavior, please tell us how you believe you will contribute to the diversity of the University of Rochester School of Nursing and nursing profession.

  2. What qualities do you have that you believe will make you a good nurse, health care provider or leader? Provide examples to support your statement.

  3. What do you think is important for us to know about you and why? How has this informed or affected your life trajectory and desire to become a nurse?

  4. What are some goals you have for yourself in the next 1, 5, and 10 years? How do you plan to achieve them?
