The Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate programs are non-degree programs for nurses with a master’s degree in nursing who are seeking Nurse Practitioner certification in New York and nationally. Advanced Certificate graduates receive a certificate of completion from the School of Nursing.
Curriculum & clinical experience
Advanced Certificate students must have completed advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, and advanced health assessment prior to admission. Depending on the selected specialty population focus, students may need to complete additional advanced health assessment coursework if their previous graduate coursework did not cover the new population.
Students must also complete clinical hours in their selected specialty, either through supervised clinical experiences in the Advanced Certificate program or by transferring eligible clinical hours from a prior master’s program. The total number of clinical hours required varies by specialty and is determined based on the student’s prior clinical and academic preparation in advanced practice nursing. The student’s advisor, in consultation with the program director, will conduct a transcript gap analysis to determine any additional coursework and clinical requirements. These findings will be used to develop the student’s individualized Advanced Certificate degree plan.
