“There is a need for seamless care delivery in the fields of palliative care and hospice to assist patients and families with navigating the complex health care system at such a sensitive time at end-of-life.

This new role in nursing will bring an innovative approach to providing continuity of care, ensuring appropriate and timely referrals for services, and education and awareness of end-of-life care services.”

About Lisa:

I received my AAS in Nursing at MCC and am a licensed Registered Nurse in NYS. I began my nursing career at Rochester Regional (formerly RGH) in the cardiothoracic ICU step down unit. My desire to spend more time educating patients and families led me to enter the field of community health in home care. I returned to school to obtain my BSN at St. John Fisher College and have spent most of my nursing career in management roles. In 2017, I continued on with my academic career to work towards my master’s degree in Health Care Organization and Management (HCM) at UR School of Nursing.

What was your experience in the program?

I have enjoyed my academic time spent at the School of Nursing, as there has been so much support and enthusiasm. The classes have added value to my career goals and the instructors are excellent!

My capstone project is on ‘Palliative Care Management Across the Continuum.’

Plans after graduation?

I will continue as Director of Hospice and Palliative Care at UR Medicine Home Care. I love to teach and plan to obtain certification in online instruction so that I can teach nursing students - undergraduate and graduate nurses – how to be leaders in their chosen fields and advance the future of the nursing profession.

Advice for future students in the HCM program?

I highly recommend the HCM master’s program for anyone who is currently, or wishes to become a leader in health care. The quality of instruction and the course content is an invaluable enhancement to any health care leader!
