Bio

The over-arching, long-term objective of Dr. Arcoleo's program of research is to optimize children's asthma health outcomes through evidence-based interventions at the child, family, school, and health care system levels with a focus on the role of culture in health care, mental health co-morbidities, medication adherence, asthma education and case management.

She has built interdisciplinary research teams of experts from the fields of nursing, clinical psychology, public health, social work, education, respiratory therapy, allergy and immunology, pediatrics, and pediatric pulmonology in Phoenix, Ariz., Bronx, N.Y., and Columbus, Ohio.

She has played a key role as PI, co-investigator or research manager in successfully funded research projects totaling more than $24 million from NIH, CDC, and highly competitive private foundations. She also has extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing large scale, longitudinal randomized, controlled, intervention studies in the home, school, and clinical settings.

Dr. Arcoleo has a passion for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and tenure-track faculty, and her expertise in research design and methods, complex statistical analysis, comparative effectiveness research and analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis is a tremendous resource for these individuals as they launch successful research careers.

Current Focus

"The over-arching goal of my research is to close the health disparities gap for under-served and ethnic minority children with asthma. These families face numerous challenges in life and when their child has a chronic health condition it places an incredible amount of stress on the family and child. My team of interdisciplinary collaborators and I are designing, testing, and disseminating novel interventions to help families better manage their children’s asthma and increase children’s adherence to daily controller medication use leading to improved health outcomes. These interventions target children, caregivers and health care providers and are delivered at home and in schools and clinics."
